Overview and selection
IBPS RRB Clerk refers to Office Assistant (Multipurpose) recruitment in Regional Rural Banks. It is different from IBPS CSA recruitment for public-sector banks and from RRB Officer Scale I. Check the current degree, local-language and age requirements for your intended state and participating bank.
Office Assistant follows prelims and mains; unlike Officer Scale I, the cited recruitment scheme does not have an interview for this post. Provisional allotment and verification remain subject to the official rules. Accuracy and short calculations are good starting priorities for numerical practice.
Pattern reference: IBPS CRP RRBs XIV 2025: historical pattern reference
Current-cycle check: CRP RRBs XV is the 2026 recruitment cycle. The detailed pattern tables below use the verified 2025 reference, not an assumed unchanged 2026 scheme. Read the 2026 notification and corrigenda

03 / PREPARATION GUIDE
Detailed syllabus
The topic map below is preparation guidance, not guaranteed chapter weightage. Use the official syllabus and information handout as the complete authority for your post and cycle.
Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation
- Arithmetic: Percentages, ratio, averages, interest, profit, mixtures, work and speed.
- Numerical skills: Approximation, simplification, number series and basic algebra.
- Data sets: Tables, bar and line charts, caselets, comparisons and multi-step calculations.
Practice priority: Estimate first to check plausibility, then calculate. For a data set, note the base, units and period. Do not spend an entire sectional timer on one difficult set.
Reasoning Ability
- Foundations: Inequalities, syllogisms, coding, directions, relationships and ordering.
- Sets: Seating arrangements, scheduling, distribution and constraint-based puzzles.
- Mains preparation: Input-output and critical reasoning practice, with complexity matched to the official handout.
Practice priority: Write confirmed facts before assumptions. For a puzzle, test contradictions and abandon an inefficient case early. Review whether the mistake was a wrong condition or a slow representation.
Mains Language Preparation: English or Hindi
- Grammar and usage: Agreement, tense, articles, prepositions, error identification and sentence improvement.
- Vocabulary: Word meaning, opposites, spelling, idioms and contextual word choice.
- Comprehension: Passages, cloze exercises and sentence ordering; distinguish evidence from an unsupported inference.
- Hindi option: Use the corresponding comprehension, grammar and vocabulary practice for Hindi if that is your chosen mains option. English samples below do not cover Hindi preparation.
Practice priority: Read a short passage and justify each answer from its wording. Write example sentences for vocabulary. In grammar review, name the rule rather than simply copying the corrected sentence.
Banking, Economy and Financial Awareness
- Concepts: Bank functions, deposits, lending, digital payment systems and basic financial terminology.
- Economic context: Inflation, fiscal and monetary policy, financial institutions and economic indicators.
- Dated developments: Policy announcements and banking events verified from RBI, bank or government publications.
Practice priority: Explain a concept in plain language before memorising a figure. Use dated notes for policy changes. Separate evergreen definitions from current numbers that need rechecking.
Computer Knowledge
- Fundamentals: Hardware, memory, input/output devices, software and operating systems.
- Everyday tasks: Word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet use and basic office operations.
- Digital safety: Recognising phishing, safe account practices and handling links or attachments cautiously.
Practice priority: Practise real office tasks rather than only memorising shortcuts. Explain the purpose of a spreadsheet formula and verify a sender independently before opening an unexpected attachment.
04 / PREPARATION GUIDE
Previous-year paper resources
Check official IBPS notices and handouts for the relevant post and cycle. A publicly verified full official Office Assistant paper library was not established. Memory-based papers are reconstructions, not official question PDFs; evaluate their source, completeness and solutions before using them as timed practice.
Review a paper: identify the year, post and stage; attempt it before reading solutions. Separate concept errors, calculation errors and guesses. A previous-year paper test should use an authentic paper or clearly identify that it is a reconstruction.

QUESTION 01 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
A quantity is increased by 20%, then decreased by 20%. What is the final change?
- A. 4% decrease
- B. 4% increase
- C. 20% decrease
- D. No change
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. Starting with 100 gives 120, then 96. The percentage bases differ, so the changes do not cancel.
Common mistake: Identify the base, units and operation before calculating. Check the answer by substitution or estimation instead of relying only on speed.
QUESTION 02 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
The average of 12, 18 and 24 is what?
- A. 16
- B. 17
- C. 18
- D. 20
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. Their sum is 54. Divide by three values to obtain 18.
Common mistake: An arithmetic mean divides the sum by the number of observations, not by the largest observation.
QUESTION 03 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
A circle has radius 7 cm. Using pi = 22/7, what is its area?
- A. 308 square cm
- B. 44 square cm
- C. 77 square cm
- D. 154 square cm
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. Area is pi x radius squared. Substitute the given values: (22/7) x 7 x 7 = 154 square cm. The radius must be squared before multiplying by pi.
Common mistake: 44 cm would be the circumference, not area. Check both the formula and the square-unit label.
QUESTION 04 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
An article marked at Rs 1,500 is sold after a 20% discount. What is its selling price?
- A. Rs 1,250
- B. Rs 1,300
- C. Rs 1,100
- D. Rs 1,200
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. A 20% discount is 1500 x 20 / 100 = Rs 300. Subtract the discount from the marked price: 1500 - 300 = Rs 1,200. Alternatively, the buyer pays 80% of the marked price.
Common mistake: A discount is calculated on marked price. Do not subtract 20 rupees or confuse the discount amount with the selling price.
QUESTION 05 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
A and B share Rs 600 in the ratio 2:3. How much does B receive?
- A. Rs 360
- B. Rs 400
- C. Rs 200
- D. Rs 240
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. There are five ratio units. B receives three: 600 x 3 / 5 = 360.
Common mistake: Identify the base, units and operation before calculating. Check the answer by substitution or estimation instead of relying only on speed.
QUESTION 06 / NUMERICAL ABILITY
A person covers 90 km at 30 km/h and another 90 km at 60 km/h. What is the average speed for the whole journey?
- A. 50 km/h
- B. 60 km/h
- C. 40 km/h
- D. 45 km/h
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. The first part takes 90/30 = 3 hours and the second 90/60 = 1.5 hours. Total distance is 180 km in 4.5 hours. Average speed is 180/4.5 = 40 km/h.
Common mistake: The arithmetic mean of the speeds is unsuitable because the times spent at the two speeds differ.
Reasoning Ability
QUESTION 07 / REASONING ABILITY
A person faces west, turns left, then turns right. What direction does the person face?
- A. North
- B. South
- C. East
- D. West
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. A left turn from west faces south. A right turn from south returns to west. The two opposite quarter-turns cancel while the person’s original direction is preserved.
Common mistake: Left and right are relative to the current facing direction, not fixed directions on the page.
QUESTION 08 / REASONING ABILITY
If every letter is shifted two places forward in the alphabet, BOOK becomes DQQM. What does READ become?
- A. TGCE
- B. UGDG
- C. TGCF
- D. SFBE
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. Apply the same shift separately: R becomes T, E becomes G, A becomes C and D becomes F. Combining the transformed letters gives TGCF.
Common mistake: Do not shift only the first letter or use different offsets for different letters. The example establishes one consistent rule.
QUESTION 09 / REASONING ABILITY
All roses are flowers. Some flowers are red. Which conclusion must follow?
- A. Some roses are red.
- B. All flowers are roses.
- C. None of these conclusions is guaranteed.
- D. All roses are red.
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. The red flowers need not include any roses. The statements also do not say every flower is a rose.
Common mistake: A possible overlap is not a necessary overlap. Draw the flower set, then vary where the red subset sits.
QUESTION 10 / REASONING ABILITY
Five people stand in a line. A is immediately before B, and B immediately before C. Which statement must be true?
- A. B is two positions before A
- B. A is two positions before C
- C. A is immediately after C
- D. C is immediately before B
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. The three consecutive positions are A, B, C. There is one person, B, between A and C, so their position difference is two. The remaining people do not alter that local relationship.
Common mistake: Do not assume the three people occupy the start of the entire line; only their relative order is fixed.
QUESTION 11 / REASONING ABILITY
A is the sister of B. B is the father of C. What is A’s relationship to C?
- A. Mother
- B. Paternal aunt
- C. Grandmother
- D. Daughter
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. Start from C: B is C’s father. A is B’s sister, making her the sister of C’s father, or paternal aunt. No additional relationship is stated.
Common mistake: Follow the direction of each relationship. Being a sister of the father does not make A the child’s mother.
QUESTION 12 / REASONING ABILITY
In a row, Neha is 7th from the left and 9th from the right. How many people are in the row?
- A. 16
- B. 17
- C. 14
- D. 15
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. Count people on both sides plus Neha once. Total is 7 + 9 - 1 = 15. The subtraction corrects the fact that Neha appears in both position counts.
Common mistake: Adding the two positions without subtracting one counts the same person twice.
English Language for Mains
QUESTION 13 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Choose the passive form of: The committee approved the proposal.
- A. The proposal is approving the committee.
- B. The proposal has approve the committee.
- C. The proposal approved the committee.
- D. The proposal was approved by the committee.
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. The active sentence is in the simple past. Make the object the new subject, use was plus the past participle approved, and introduce the agent with by. The meaning and tense remain unchanged.
Common mistake: Do not change past tense to present tense or reverse who performed the action.
QUESTION 14 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Choose the closest meaning of prudent.
- A. Unrelated
- B. Temporary
- C. Careful and sensible
- D. Reckless
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. Prudent describes careful judgement, especially when considering consequences or risks. Reckless is closer to its opposite; unrelated and temporary describe different ideas.
Common mistake: Learn a word in context. A prudent decision considers consequences rather than ignoring them.
QUESTION 15 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Choose the correct sentence using did not.
- A. He did not go to the meeting.
- B. He does not went to the meeting.
- C. He did not goes to the meeting.
- D. He did not went to the meeting.
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. The auxiliary did already expresses past tense. The main verb following did not takes its base form, go. Went and goes therefore cannot follow did not in this construction.
Common mistake: Avoid marking the past tense twice. After did or did not, check for a base-form verb.
QUESTION 16 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Choose the correct phrase: Neither of the two proposals ___ accepted.
- A. have
- B. were
- C. are
- D. was
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. Neither is singular here, so the singular past-tense verb was is appropriate.
Common mistake: The word neither is the subject here. The plural noun inside the following phrase does not determine the verb.
QUESTION 17 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Choose the correct preposition: She is interested ___ environmental science.
- A. at
- B. in
- C. for
- D. on
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. The standard expression is interested in a subject or activity. Therefore, interested in environmental science completes the sentence. The other prepositions do not form the intended expression.
Common mistake: Learn prepositions in complete phrases rather than as interchangeable single words.
QUESTION 18 / ENGLISH LANGUAGE FOR MAINS
Read: Digital access widened, but reliable connectivity remained a barrier in some areas. Which statement is supported?
- A. Access increased while some connectivity problems remained
- B. Digital access disappeared
- C. Every area had identical conditions
- D. Connectivity was reliable everywhere
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. The sentence contrasts wider access with a remaining limitation. The correct option preserves both parts. The absolute claims in the other options go beyond, or contradict, the stated information.
Common mistake: Words such as everywhere and every can overstate a passage. Preserve qualifications such as some areas.
General and Banking Awareness
QUESTION 19 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
In general banking usage, a deposit is best described as what?
- A. Money placed with a bank
- B. A guaranteed investment profit
- C. A tax exemption
- D. An equity share in every bank
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. A deposit is money placed with a bank under the account terms. It is not automatically equity or a guarantee of investment profit.
Common mistake: A deposit is not an equity share in the bank. The exact rights and returns depend on the account’s terms.
QUESTION 20 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
What is opportunity cost?
- A. Every expense added together
- B. Only an item’s market price
- C. A guaranteed profit
- D. The value of the next-best alternative forgone
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: D. When resources are used for one choice, another feasible choice is given up. Opportunity cost concerns the next-best alternative, rather than the sum of every imaginable alternative.
Common mistake: A zero monetary payment does not necessarily imply zero opportunity cost.
QUESTION 21 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
What does KYC stand for in a banking context?
- A. Known Yearly Credit
- B. Keep Your Cash
- C. Know Your Customer
- D. Key Yield Calculation
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. KYC means Know Your Customer. It concerns customer identification and related due-diligence requirements, rather than a calculation of interest or an instruction to hold cash.
Common mistake: Understand the purpose as well as the abbreviation. Detailed requirements should be checked against current official guidance.
QUESTION 22 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
Which action best reduces the risk from a suspected phishing message?
- A. Share an OTP to verify it
- B. Use a trusted official channel independently
- C. Click every link to inspect it
- D. Reply with login details
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. Independent verification avoids relying on an untrusted sender or link. Never disclose OTPs or passwords.
Common mistake: Use a known official channel, not a phone number or link supplied by the suspicious message. Keep passwords and OTPs private.
QUESTION 23 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
What is the basic distinction between a debit card and a credit card?
- A. A debit card generally draws on account funds; a credit card uses an approved credit facility
- B. Debit cards always guarantee interest-free borrowing
- C. Credit cards are bank deposits
- D. Both always draw only from the same deposit balance
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. A debit transaction normally draws funds from the linked account. A credit-card transaction uses an approved credit line and creates an amount payable under its terms. Fees and repayment conditions vary.
Common mistake: Do not treat a credit limit as money already held in a deposit account. Avoid universal claims about fees or interest.
QUESTION 24 / GENERAL AND BANKING AWARENESS
If a price index rises from 100 to 110, what is the percentage increase?
- A. 110%
- B. 10%
- C. 1%
- D. 11%
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. The index rises by 10 from a base of 100. Percentage change is 10/100 x 100 = 10%. An index number and its rate of change are different quantities.
Common mistake: Do not report the final index value as the inflation rate.
Computer Knowledge
QUESTION 25 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
Which software category primarily manages hardware and provides services for applications?
- A. A web image
- B. A presentation slide
- C. Operating system
- D. A single spreadsheet cell
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: C. An operating system coordinates resources such as memory, processes, storage and devices. Applications rely on those services. A spreadsheet or presentation is an application-level tool, not the system that manages the machine.
Common mistake: Separate system software from application documents. A file format is not an operating system.
QUESTION 26 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
Which web-address prefix indicates an HTTPS connection?
- A. https://
- B. file://
- C. mailto:
- D. http://
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. The https scheme indicates HTTP over a secured transport connection. It differs from plain HTTP, a local-file reference and an email link. However, an encrypted connection alone does not prove that the website operator is trustworthy.
Common mistake: Do not equate HTTPS with a guarantee that a page is legitimate. Check the domain and the request being made too.
QUESTION 27 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
Which is a safe response to an unexpected email asking for your banking password?
- A. Open its attachment
- B. Verify through the bank's official channel
- C. Forward your password to a friend
- D. Reply with the password
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. Do not disclose passwords or follow unverified links. Independently contact the bank through a trusted official channel.
Common mistake: Distinguish a device, application, operation and security practice. A familiar technical term does not make an unrelated option correct.
QUESTION 28 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
What is a backup primarily intended to provide?
- A. A way to make every file public
- B. A recoverable copy of data
- C. A guarantee against every possible loss
- D. A substitute for understanding permissions
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. A backup preserves a copy that can support recovery after a loss or failure. Its value depends on suitable retention, integrity and recovery checks. It should not automatically change the confidentiality of the data.
Common mistake: A copy that cannot be restored may not fulfil the recovery purpose.
QUESTION 29 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
Which file extension commonly identifies a PDF document?
- A. .pdf
- B. .jpg
- C. .mp3
- D. .csv
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: A. PDF documents commonly use the .pdf extension. JPG is an image format, MP3 an audio format and CSV a text-based tabular format. The extension indicates the usual format, not a guarantee about file safety.
Common mistake: A familiar extension does not prove an attachment is safe or authentic.
QUESTION 30 / COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE
In a spreadsheet, A1 contains 10 and A2 contains 20. What is the result of =SUM(A1:A2)?
- A. 20
- B. 30
- C. 1020
- D. 10
Reveal answer and detailed solution
Answer: B. The range A1:A2 includes both cells. SUM adds the numeric values, giving 10 + 20 = 30. It does not concatenate the digits or select just one cell.
Common mistake: Read the colon as a range boundary. Addition and text concatenation are different operations.
06 / PREPARATION GUIDE
Mock-test review and weak-area revision
Start by topic: choose a chapter from your syllabus and revise its method before practising. Subject-wise mock tests combine related topics; chapter-wise tests isolate one concept. The original sets above are untimed practice, so record your own attempts if you use them for revision.
Move to a verified mock: compare the test distribution, sectional timing and marking scheme with your actual cycle. A free mock test or free test series must be identified as free in its current access terms; the app link below is not a guarantee of free full-length tests for this exam.
Analyse the attempt: record correct, wrong and skipped questions, accuracy and time. For topic-wise weak-area analysis, classify mistakes by chapter and reason rather than treating every low score as the same problem.
Compare by exam: keep results from the same exam stage together. Use mock test performance analysis to decide your next revision task, not as a prediction of selection. Reattempt missed concepts after a gap.
