Last updated 10 October 2026 • Phase XIV exam held 16 to 26 Sep 2026
SSC Selection Post is the Commission's catch-all recruitment, and it works differently from every other SSC exam. Instead of one post with one set of rules, a single notification covers hundreds of distinct posts across government departments, each with its own qualification, age bracket and pay level. You apply post by post rather than to the exam as a whole, which makes it the most overlooked opportunity in the SSC calendar.

PHASE XIV
Exam completed
Held 16 to 26 Sep 2026
Posts are grouped into three levels by the qualification they require. You sit the paper for the level your post belongs to, and you may apply for several posts across levels if you meet each one's requirement. Each post carries its own cut-off, which is why a modest score can still secure a post other candidates overlooked.
Matriculation level — posts requiring Class 10 pass
Higher Secondary level — posts requiring Class 12 pass
Graduate level and above — posts requiring a bachelor's degree or a higher or technical qualification
Notification released — 13 April 2026
Application window — 13 April to 4 May 2026
Computer-based exam — 16 to 26 September 2026
Each level is tested through a single computer-based paper of 100 objective questions carrying 200 marks, to be completed in 60 minutes. The four sections are equally weighted at 25 questions each. What changes between levels is the difficulty of the questions, not the structure of the paper.
COMPUTER BASED TEST — 100 questions, 200 marks, 60 minutes
General Intelligence — 25 questions, 50 marks
General Awareness — 25 questions, 50 marks
Quantitative Aptitude — 25 questions, 50 marks
English Language — 25 questions, 50 marks
Marking — 2 marks per correct answer, 0.50 deducted per wrong answer
Certain posts add a skill test, typing test or physical requirement on top of the written paper. These are listed against the individual post in the notification, not announced separately, so read your post's row carefully before applying.
There is no single qualification for this recruitment. Each post states its own requirement, ranging from Class 10 pass through Class 12 and graduation to specific diplomas, degrees and professional certifications. Some posts also require prior work experience in a relevant field. The notification carries a post-wise table, and applying against a post whose requirement you do not meet is the most common cause of rejection here.
Age brackets are set post by post and commonly run between 18 and 30 years, though some posts extend further. Upper age limits are relaxed by three years for OBC (non-creamy layer), five years for SC and ST, and ten years for persons with benchmark disabilities, with further provisions for ex-servicemen and departmental candidates. Check the bracket for each post you apply to, because they differ within the same notification.
Selection runs through the computer-based test, any post-specific skill or physical test, and document verification. Cut-offs are calculated separately for every post rather than for the exam as a whole. This is the practical reason to apply for as many posts as you genuinely qualify for: your single exam score is measured against each post's own cut-off, and the less popular posts routinely close at markedly lower scores.
Pay depends entirely on the post, spanning Pay Level 1 to Pay Level 7 on the 7th Pay Commission matrix. Matriculation-level posts generally sit at Level 1 or 2, Higher Secondary posts around Level 4, and graduate and technical posts can reach Level 6 or 7. Each post's pay level is printed against it in the notification, so check it before you decide where to apply.
