Candidates must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board. The requirement is relaxed to Class 11 for children of serving, retired or deceased Delhi Police personnel and certain Delhi Police staff, subject to the conditions in the notification.
Male candidates must hold a valid LMV driving licence for motorcycle and car at the time of the Physical Endurance and Measurement Test. A learner's licence is not accepted. This is the single most common reason otherwise eligible male candidates are rejected at the physical stage, and the licence takes weeks to obtain, so start the process well before the notification drops.
The age bracket is 18 to 25 years. Upper age limits are relaxed by three years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and five years for SC and ST candidates, with further provisions for ex-servicemen, departmental candidates and other specified categories. The minimum age of 18 applies to every category. Confirm the exact relaxations for your category in the notification when it is published.
The written stage is a computer-based objective test. Its four subject areas have been consistent across recent cycles, with General Knowledge and Current Affairs carrying the largest share and a small Computer Fundamentals section that candidates from other SSC exams often neglect.
COMPUTER BASED TEST — subject areas
General Knowledge and Current Affairs — the heaviest section
Reasoning
Numerical Ability
Computer Fundamentals, MS Office, internet and communication basics
Question counts, marks and the negative-marking rate are confirmed in each cycle's notification and have changed between recruitments. Check the official notice at ssc.gov.in for the exact pattern before you build a timing strategy around it.
Selection runs in four stages. Only the written test carries merit marks; everything after it is qualifying, but each stage eliminates candidates outright.
1. Computer Based Test — decides the merit list and shortlists for the physical stage
2. Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT) — race, long jump, high jump and height measurement, plus the driving licence check for male candidates
3. Trade Test — a practical driving test for male candidates
4. Medical examination and document verification — the final stage before appointment
Constable (Executive) carries a pay scale of Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100, which is Pay Level 3 on the 7th Pay Commission matrix — the same level as SSC GD Constable. In-hand pay adds Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance at the Delhi rate, and Transport Allowance. Because all postings are in the National Capital Region, HRA is paid at the highest city class, which lifts take-home pay above comparable postings elsewhere.
