RPSC RAS Prelims Syllabus, Pattern & Rajasthan GK

RAS Prelims preparation starts with a clear separation between Rajasthan-specific knowledge and the wider General Studies syllabus. This guide uses the published RPSC RAS 2024 syllabus as its stated reference. Check the notification and syllabus for your own cycle before applying its rules.

Published RAS prelims paper structure

The referenced RPSC syllabus specifies one objective paper in General Knowledge and General Science, with 150 questions, a maximum of 200 marks and a three-hour duration. It is a screening examination and its marks are not counted towards final merit. The syllabus also provides for negative marking.

Read the examination's own instructions for answer marking, penalties and any unanswered-question requirements. Do not transfer the UPSC marking scheme to RAS simply because both have preliminary examinations.

Rajasthan-specific topics

Build topic folders for history, art and culture, literature and heritage; geography; political and administrative systems; the economy; and current developments relevant to the state. Use the official syllabus as the checklist against which you review coverage.

Maps help connect physical features, resources, agriculture and settlements. For history and culture, use a timeline and location together. For governance, compare the functions of state institutions. This reduces confusion between similar names and makes revision easier to check.

General Studies and General Science

Study the national and wider topics specified by RPSC alongside state content. Organise polity, economy, history, geography, science, reasoning and current affairs into manageable revision blocks. Treat these labels as planning categories and confirm the exact syllabus wording in the official PDF.

Do not infer a guaranteed topic weightage from one paper. Review several past papers to understand question styles, but keep coverage broad enough that a changed emphasis does not leave a large gap.

A practical Rajasthan GK revision method

For each topic, create a one-page summary and a short question set. Answer the questions after a gap of several days. If a fact is repeatedly confused, place it beside the similar fact and write the difference explicitly.

For current affairs, record the month and source of information. A useful note explains why the event matters, which syllabus area it belongs to and the background needed to understand it. Re-reading a long list of headlines is a weak substitute for this connection.

After a full-length practice paper

Review incorrect, guessed and unattempted questions separately. Calculate accuracy among attempted questions and note the subjects responsible for avoidable errors. Compare several attempts before changing your strategy; one unusually easy or hard paper can distort the picture.

Use the next study session to fix a small number of recurring gaps. Reserve a later session to retest them. Progress is easier to see when you track whether an old mistake disappears, rather than only whether the next score rises.
